+$+ DXG DXG 581V Camcorder High Definition widescreen 5.0 Mpix supported memory SD SDHC flash card

Having gotten the camera a few days ago I sat back and impatiently waited for the 8gb memory card to come in. Once the camera battery charged and the card was in I started shooting and experimenting like mad. Now granted the only two camcorders I've owned previous to this were not to great, but nevertheless will be my means of comparing. The first camera I owned was JVC mini-vhs, the second being the original Flip. I've also seen the footage and sound that the Flip Mino or whatever you wish to call it takes.

Here's my verdict:

CONS:

- The camera only films 60fps with the 480p setting (nevertheless the 30fps

doesn't look too bad with the 720p and 1080i)

- films like a vhs camcorder but slightly better when it is DARK inside a room

same goes for outside footage. But outside nighttime footage is slightly better than most portable camcorders.

- no image stabilization but holds up to being not NEARLY as watery and bouncy as other portable camcorders such as the FLIP.

PROS

- Video format really easy to work with in quicktime

- Video files don't take up a lot of space for the amateur filmmaker who

doesn't want to have to by an external harddrive to work his camera.

- Very VERY nice detail and quality in well-lit and outdoor situations

- VERY GOOD and CLEAN audio pickup

- Not too small, and doesn't feel necessarily cheap

- TONS of features [unlike the FLIP] not just one touch recording

- white balance

- brightness

- display settings

- playback of video and photos

- films decent macro video and still pics

- takes decent pics from 5mp-8mp

- nighttime settings

- choose between NTSC and PAL

- comes with plugins for HDTV and for playing on regular TV

In summary the only reason I gave it one star less is because it's not necessarily 100% HD. I mean on your laptop when you just finished shooting in a

good lit situation outside it looks pretty darn close. But I can't imagine it looking like your Blue-rays when you play it on your 42 inch.

If your looking for a cheaply priced camera with quality, durability, and tons of features this is as best as it gets. From what I've seen THIS IS the best model DXG sells and I would highly recommend buying it.

$*$ Panasonic SC BT330 5.1 Channel Cinema Surround Home Entertainment System

I have been in the market to get streaming content on my TV for a while now. I compared this unit against the LG-LHB535. The LG has some added features.

1. Built in Wifi

2. Streaming software... which means you can stream from your computer.

3. HDMI inputs.

Otherwise the Panasonic works awesome. It's fast and responsive, easy to setup, small and sleek, and it's cheaper than the comparable LG unit.

It includes the following features.

1. Amazon video rentals... Awesome.. However it's $3 for most regular rentals and then more for HD. I'm still a bigger fan of RedBox $1 for anything... Amazon I might be holding out on your steep prices.

2. Netflix the same as everything else... other than the interface is really simple and ugly like the PS3 interface. It's not as easy to navigate and search like the X Box 360 or on your computer.

3. Youtube which is cool.

4. Picas pictures which is neat but almost useless in some cases.

5. iPhone/iPod doc that allows audio and video playback. Very cool, it charges and doesn't display the "this accessory is not made to work with your device" message.

6. Blue ray, DVD, burned DVD's etc.

7. Two fiber optic inputs that allow you to plug in your infamous HD DVD player or some other audio sources. Would have liked to see HDMI here... LG has it.

8. Viera Link which is cool if you have a Panasonic TV like I do. It turns the stuff on off etc by communicating over the HDMI cable.

9. The sound is AMAZING for as cheap as this unit is. The speakers are crisp and clear. Very nice surround sound. I had a Sony STR-K750P, and this Panasonic system is way better.

Overall the packaging was slick with everything well packaged for shipment. I couldn't find the electronic version of the manual online anywhere. The specs say it's wireless ready, which means it has a USB port on the back that you have to pay $100 to get the $5 Panasonic WIFI dongle. Total rip off. I just hard wired.

The menus are not quite as elegant as the Apple TV, it also has this hard switch thing.. Basically if you need to adjust any settings, it unloads the web content dashboard thing, then takes you back to the DVD menu. So there is a bit of a lag making adjustments. I don't understand why they just didn't layer the menus and then reload if your settings require it. It also has some sort of quick on feature. Basically if you start it up from scratch, AKA no power supplied, it takes about 30 seconds to boot.. So they added this quick boot thing which makes the unit run in some kind of a standby. It tells you it will consume slightly more power while in this mode. I did have a couple times where the web interface streaming thing had garbled text, I tried powering on off, but it doesn't fully reboot if you use the quick boot. In order to get it to fully reboot, you have to turn it off, then unplug the power and re-connect.

The manual isn't very descriptive and there is a lot of technical jargon as you wade deeper into the settings. Lots of color control, bit level, sound stuff, display stuff etc.

It does have the capability to adjust the surround and EQ levels while playing. It's not entirely intuitive, and the manual is wrong, but it works. When you use the buttons on the bottom of the remote to adjust the surround, it displays on little screen on the unit, the levels. In the manual it tells you to use up and down to adjust these. I must have wasted 20 minutes on this part before I tried left and right and then it worked. Looks like Panasonic needs an updated manual. The firmware on the unit is 1.0 which hopefully means there will be some software updates sooner than later. It would be nice to see layered settings menus, and they have some room on the dash board for new content.

The unit is so new that if you use a Logitec Harmony remote, it won't detect your unit yet. I had to use the older model Bt-300 or something to get my Logitec remote to work.

anyhow.. thats my review... Enjoy!

$ LG BD550 Blu Ray Disc Player

So far this Blu Ray player has been a great value for the price! The only problem I've had is that sometimes with Blu Ray discs, it will start to skip or freeze and the only way to correct the problem is to stop the disc, eject it and then restart it. This was a problem very early dvd players used to have too so I'm not surprised by this, but it does get to be annoying sometimes. Other than that, I have no problem with this for what I paid for it :)

!$ Sigma 18 200mm f 3.5 6.3 AF DC II Lens for all Nikon DSLR Cameras

I had this lens for one week, and it is perfect for travel,

and when you don t know what where you are going to take pictures,

the built quality is excellent (as sigma does usual)

and it is very compact and light for a large range lens.

just not very sharp pictures at 18mm,

but with this kind of lens it is well known

and it is still better than the kit-lenses 18-55mm that I have.

if you see the concurrence : bigger, more bulky,

sometime the telephoto-lens increase by itself if you chose the wrong position...

and it can resist if you want to change focal between 18 and 200mmm,

with this one: you have NOT these problems !!!

of course there you can find more rage (18-270 for example),

but for me 18-200 is enough and also it is more compact,

there is no stabilization and ultra-sonic focus but,

first, the stab is not needed if you have a Pentax SLR,

and second, the ultrasonic-focus is more expensive

and not always needed and increase the size of the lens.

for me this lens is excellent with my Pentax K10D and my Pentax k-x

.... and by the way, this lens is not expensive at all.

Sharp LC 19SK24U - 19" LCD TV - widescreen - 720p - HDTV - black

Sharp LC 19SK24U - 19" LCD TV - widescreen - 720p - HDTV - black Review

I've owned my Sharp LC19SK24U for almost 2 years and used it primarily for a PC monitor at first and now it is a 2nd TV. I bought it on sale for about 0 in Nov 2007, which was about the same price as a stand-alone PC monitor at the time. As a PC monitor, it has an acceptable picture... nothing great.

What I love is being able to switch to the TV with a simple button click on the main remote. (There are 2 remotes.) This saved me from buying a TV tuner for my PC. All you have to do is attach a video cable to it and you're all set. The TV picture is adequate, but not exceptional. Obviously, you can't be too far away from a 19-inch screen to see, but if you do watch from across a room, the tiny speakers must be turned up to max, which isn't very loud at all. There is some distortion at higher levels, which is expected from a small TV. However, if you want better sound, hook auxiliary speakers to the rear jacks. There is a nice feature that automatically adjusts the brightness according to the ambient light in the room, which is handy at night.

There are 2 remotes. One full-featured one and a small basic one that magnetically attaches to the base, (or your refrigerator for that matter if you use it in the kitchen.) The basic remote has a built-in LCD clock & timer, on/off, volume and channel up/down. There are two sets of input RCAs on the back, S-video, HDMI, an analog PC jack, and a small ?mm headphone jack.

Overall, it's a good small TV.

DVR HDTV - changing the way people watch TV

The new HDTV technology is amazing and has greatly improved the look of our TV shows and movies. But it is still a small problem: most of the material on television is still is terrible! Stupid sit-com is your intelligence in high-def offense as easily as in the standard-def, if not more. DVRs come in here

A DVR is a digital video recorder, and is also known as personal video recorders, or PVR. The main task is the same as an old VCR,For the record content from television. But the DVR is much more than a VCR. Instead of a glorified tape recorder, is a machine that can reduce fat by the media diet, and hours of free time to add to your busy week, a few minutes at a time, moving to watch TV and have experience in a more efficient . And the DVR is always recording what you see, so you will be able to interrupt a live broadcast as if it were a recording, then return at a later time without losing.

Have regular DVRsince about 1999, but in recent years have had to be modified to handle HD content. A modern HD DVR (high-definition DVR) is a larger disk of desktop computers and uses it to store up to 35 hours of HD content or 300 hours of content standards. And the new HD DVR has improved in other areas, too. The TiVo Series 3, may, for example, luxury standard definition content to record him a better quality and can have two channels at the same timeWatch as the third.

The easiest way to get an HD-DVR is a lease from your cable company, for about $ 6 - $ 10 per month. Most people who complain do so, but exceed the small amount of memory (8-10 hours of HD content), and the user-hostility of hardware typical it. The best solution for this problem is right now the TiVo Series 3 HD DVR, which costs about $ 600, but is much higher than the typical cable company boxes in the quality of transport, storage and simpleuse.

The positive impact of the use of a DVR are enormous. They can easily be programmed to record programs of interest, even if they do not know to exist: for instance, the TiVo can be set to record any movie on any channel that John Wayne in it. N. channel surfing useless. And, of course, the DVR can be used to skip the ads, which can several hours a week to eliminate time-wasting.

This effect is so significant that 70 percent of TV advertisers, in a recent survey, said that the penetration of DVR will "reduce or destroy" the effectiveness of 30-seconds spot. And he talked about one quarter of advertisers, which would be delivered by reducing the amount of money in television commercials and to focus their energies elsewhere to respond. With a Blu-ray DVD player and an HD-DVR connected to your HDTV, you can finally fight the good fight against the tyranny of mindless TV ads.

HDTV: An Advertising myth de-teaser

There are a lot of nonsense talked about HDTV and the noise is very
by manufacturers and sellers of advertising, "which in some cases very
misleading.

One of the biggest areas of confusion is the resolution. The resolution is defined as the percentage of
Number of pixels - the elements that compose a digital image - in a framework
usually cited as axb, where a is the number of pixels on the screen
(horizontal) and b is the number of pixelsup and down (vertically, also called
the number of rows). In this article we will explain everything there is to know about
the number of pixels required for HDTV.

HDTV Specifications

The HDTV specification provides three different types of HDTV, beginning with
Number of lines of resolution and the type of signal. They are:

1080p (1080 lines progressive scan)

1080i (1080 lines, interlaced)

720p (720Pixel, progressive)

Each TV can display at least 720 lines is "HDTV ready" logo, and all
Signal with less than 720 lines and is not an HDTV signal.

Interlaced or progressive?

The 'i' and 'p' in the HDTV specification refer to interlaced and progressive. The
Analog TV, we have observed for years, is intertwined. This simply means that each
Context of the video (of which there are 30 per second for NTSC and 24 per secondPAL)
divided into two areas. Each field contains alternate lines of the signal (it has
odd, the other is even) which is 1/60th of a second (1/48th for PAL display).
Why is it so fast, the brain interprets each frame as a single image.
Progressive scan signals do not have fields, merely to show each image in its
Parties for 1/30th (or 1/24th) of a second. This translates into better image quality,
particularly evident in fast-action --Programs such as sporting events.

So anyone that displays 720 lines TV HDTV ready?

No, and this is one of the key areas are often confusing. The second important element of
specification is that HDTV signals to be transmitted in 16:9 widescreen. This is
known as the aspect ratio, where '16 'refers to the width of the image and '9', the
Height. In other words, is the height of the image 9/16ths of the width.
Some manufacturers promoteTV with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
as HDTV ready. Is wrong. Although the total number of vertical pixels
than the minimum of 720 needed for HDTV, with a ratio of 16:9, it
would need 1280 pixels horizontally at 720-line display HDTV pictures. The only
Solution is a squash or crop the image, none of which is satisfactory.
Thus, properly HDTV capable, a television must be ableSelect at least
1280 pixels horizontally and vertically at least 720

Remember, before verifying whether the resolution of your HDTV purchase at least
Leaving 1280 x 720 pixels and not the logo on the packaging.

Westinghouse LTV32W3 32-Inch LCD HDTV

Westinghouse LTV32W3 32-Inch LCD HDTV Review

I have owned two of these units since fall 07 and so far they have been great. The picture quality especially in HD is excellent. I saved a lot compared to big-name units of the size and it was worth it (less so today since prices seem to have converged). I am only writing because the recent posts seem to be very negative but that was not my experience.

I do not doubt the posts here and would recommend that one buy an extended warranty from a third party with this set, just in case. Indeed, it may be better to buy one refurbished so that the Westinghouse warranty period is short lived (90 days) and another warranty company kicks in earlier. I bought mine online from eCost refurbished (and saw nothing wrong with them as arrived) but added the warranty for two years. I did this again last month with a slightly newer Westinghouse model, as a gift for a relative, and added the SquareTrade warranty for not much extra. Buying it that way is very cheap and relatively safe. Assuming they survive the first 90 days, you will never have to deal with Westinghouse customer service which people here say is bad. But the product itself seems good for the price. If this is the only way one can afford breaking into LCD and HD TVs, at a really cheap cost via refurbished, then go for it. One final caveat for any brand: do not accept delivery until you have seen it work. Make the shipper see you plug it in before signing. At least with eCost, the box itself says that, so it was easy to talk the UPS guy into waiting a minute. I had a small UHF antenna (all you need is a cheap one, even for HD) -- or have cable good to go -- just to check.

What is HDCP, and why are HDTVs with the producer?

Many people are expensive and high-definition TV video players, but are not able to get a signal, or to obtain a low resoultion. The problem is probably not HDCP-compliance. But what is HDCP?

HDCP stands for High Definition Content Protection. It has been implemented by Intel Corporation and its subsidiary Digital Content Protection, LLC. In essence, manufacturers and producers of digital content on the terms and agree to pay a fee so that their content can beprotected in the digital domain.

Encryption is quite complex and has 40 keys, each with a code to 56 bits. It 'a bit' as a PIN number which is 2240 characters. Failure for producers to keep secret code results in expulsion from the program HDCP. This code allows HDCP content will be better protected against piracy, unauthorized use of digital devices. For example, high-definition digital video sources are not protected content can be sent tonon-HDCP compatible receiver.

What does this mean for consumers, must ensure that all their video equipment is HDCP compatible, digital by the player, HDTV, to provide connectivity of the participating institutions, such as switches or splitters HDMI. The manufacturer of the device is essentially a license from Digital Content Protection, LLC, which allow them a code decryption tool in the firmware of the devices built in decoding HDCP encryption is for sale. WhenEncryption is not encrypted, you will probably only static or reduced resolution of 480p.

HDMI is the only format that the video HDCP has been established to protect. If you use Display Port, DVI (Digital Video Interface, GVIF (Gigabit Video Interface) or UDI (Unified Digital Interface) and experience of these problems, it is possible that the device is not HDCP compliant.

The 523 1080p Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV is simply an amazing kit

The 52 "1080p Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV is simply an amazing set. This is one of the best 52" LCD HDTV out there. This phrase is used by many, and you can control the whole internet and you will see that they are not fibbing. Sony continues to make just loved the Bravia publish more and better with each new model. If you are looking for a 52 "LCD HDTV and these are in your family, this might be the best for miles around.

Let's talk first about how the KDL-52W3000 offersaesthetic. The metal frame opaque brush is a classic look that actually absorbs the light comes and does not reflect how the 46V3000, if divert Pianoblack found. Who are not like the hub-46V2500 ago, but only slightly negative thing that can do what the child is in comparison.

Let's talk about the image, the part that everyone wants to know. Let me say that the picture quality of Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV is simply amazing in HD. TheThe picture is brighter and the Live Color Creation "gimmick" is not a trick. The colors are rich, vibrant and life as the point that almost 3D, animation, especially when playing movies like Ratatouille and Cars. The viewing angle is very good and the screen is not fixed and has no problem playing in a room lit by the sun.

I recommend the cable HDMI 1.3, Category 2, so that the TV can display better colors. Standard definition is in order and are not afraid like most LCD HDTV out there.Watching HD DVD is almost as if coupled with the Oppo up-converting DVD player. The refresh rate is 60 Hz, but there is little to no difference compared side by side with the XBR4 120Hz. Motion blur is normal for LCD televisions, but the Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 does a good job to keep to a minimum. If you do not get a watered down, you turn off the noise reduction to eliminate them.

Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000, the audio quality is above average, especially if the regular soundIn turn, the S-Force Front Surround, raising his voice and strengthen it. The stock TV speakers do not make you feel as if I were a movie, but it is pretty good but you're planning a home theater, although you should get. The Sony DAV-HDX500 / i BRAVIA Home Theater System is good.

Get the 52 "Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV if the XBR4 is too expensive. This set is the best thing to do, if it falls within the budget. Considering buying for HDMI 1.3 CableGetting the colors as possible, because this TV supports. Have fun and do not forget to take your eyes off the TV and get up to walk now and then, because this TV is in the world which was observed through a window as it sucks all the time.

The Biggest Oversight Services, if the flat screen television hanging on the wall

Have saved to buy your money and now has a flat screen TV. Maybe you resolved on an LCD or plasma.

I hope you do not spend all your money for TV, because there are some things you want for the budget, if you are not particularly convenient for the home can.

Where are you going to install your flat screen?

If you mount the TV on the wall, is something very important to check for you

Do you have a TV output installed heightWant your TV? Even if he said yes ... Sorry, will not suffice. Let me explain.

One can imagine, is where your existing TV set? Perhaps it is a center of entertainment. Close your eyes and see all these wires that go between your TV and satellite receiver, DVD player and receiver.

Why should I bring speed to this?

If you hang your TV to the wall jack is installed with a standard TV, there are

What about all those wires, we just talked about? How will you connect all these lines are necessary for all electronic devices work?

I told you that nobody thinks about it.

Unfortunately, with a single connection cable TV over the fireplace ... The only option is to stack:

· Satellite Receiver

· Cable box

· Surround Sound Receiver

· DVD Player

Everything beautiful in the chimney!

Or a pair of ugly wires draped all over the placeserves as a serious threat to trigger

Can you imagine moving into a nice new house and see all these pieces of equipment, the balance on your coat?

You would be surprised how many new houses are being built in this way. You install a simple TV socket on the mantelpiece. The owners are completely unaware. Unfortunately, up to you, the house, wire your behalf.

So what can we do?

If you want the best possible signal, HDMIThe cables are the way forward. An HDMI cable through the walls, the work of all other lines of moments before we talked about doing. Allowing them to do professionally, I would budget $ 395 - $ 595 for HDMI cables, as needed, for how long it should be.

You can probably save two hundred dollars, if you take yourself.

Keep in mind that you must buy the flat screen TV just the beginning of your investment in HD TV at home.

HDTV Antenna - How to Choose the Right One

The type of antenna you will get your TV is the number of channels that can receive and determine the image quality. If you take a new HDTV, you may need a new antenna, but not because the technique is different: all HDTV broadcasts are in the UHF spectrum, so that any UHF antenna will do the job properly. The real reason for a new antenna is because there are many more channels available in widths of cluster frequency closer, and you may just needa larger antenna and superior quality.

A good strategy for the purchase of an antenna is easy to reach the best and most capable antenna, which is your living situation of the practice. Let's start at the top, and we down:

External roof or attic UHF / HDTV antenna is mounted.

The higher you can mount the antenna, the more stations there will be a draw, and become stronger. If you are in a position, one on top of your house, so to assemble. If the district codeOste avoid questions or issues that forecast the next best place is in the attic. Sure that receives UHF channels for HDTV and local channels for FM.

A decision you have to do is if a directional or omnidirectional antenna to receive television. The choice depends on the position and strength of the area TV stations. If they are all grouped in a small area, like the top of a mountain in the area, a directional antenna can be in this direction and givethe best signal. If you live halfway between two cities, omnidirectional antenna, you need to receive signals from stations in different directions. The easiest way to make this choice is a antennaweb.org visit, enter your address and find out what type and size of the antennas will be needed.

Amplified indoor antenna.

If you can not afford a roof antenna or simply not the cost of an external antenna, an indoor amplified antenna, set the nextchoice. It uses an electric current to improve the signal to improve the weak channels that do not receive a normal antenna. The only problem is that sometimes larger antenna to improve the noise with the signal, so that they could, some programs even worse.

Non-enhanced internal antenna.

A simple "rabbit ears" antenna option is less powerful, but in many cases, all you need. If you live in an urban area or near a station, or simply notI want a lot of money put into an antenna, this is the best choice.

Another thing to consider is the transition from analog to digital, the FCC has mandated that in February 2009. If you only have a VHF antenna, but you want to receive digital broadcasts, you need a new antenna. You can learn more about HDTV antennas and usually you can find information about HDTV useful sites.

Satellite TV vs. Cable TV - which is best?

The move is. Last year, millions of Americans turned to cable television with satellite TV.

Why? When you compare satellite TV from cable TV, you can discover the main reasons are cost, picture quality, selection of programs, and customer satisfaction.

We see the differences ...

Satellite vs. Cable TV fees

Expenditure on cable TV throughout the country an average of $ 39.99 per month. In our area the cost of cable TV is $ 37.30 per month for 64 channels, plus add $ 10.95 per month for digitalChannels. The installation in a room is $ 39.95, plus $ 9.95 for each additional room.

Satellite TV fees from Dish Network are $ 31.99 per month for 60 channels, while DirecTV charges $ 41.99 per month for 115 channels. Both satellite TV providers currently offer free satellite TV equipment and installation in up to four rooms.

Cable vs. Satellite TV Programming

Cable TV in most areas offers almost as many TV channels via satellite, and broadcast in analog (over-the-air)Format. If you want to have digital pictures and sound, you must pay an additional fee, usually $ 10 to $ 15 per month.

Satellite TV offers more channels of cable TV (over 250 channels) and HDTV (high definition TV) programming. All satellite TV channels in digital format for maximum image quality and to transfer the sound.

Satellite vs. Cable TV Equipment

With cable you only decoders that connect the power line to your TV.Is usually free and leases for the decoder, but if you want a digital video recorder, you must pay an additional fee.

With satellite TV you need a TV aerial and satellite TV receivers. Both Dish Network and DirecTV offer that equipment, and office setup. Dish Network will give you a DVR (digital video recording) receiver or an HDTV receiver for free, while DirecTV charges $ 49.99 for DVR receivers and $ 299 for HDTV receivers.

CablesSatellite TV and reliability and customer satisfaction

Cable TV outages average 3% to 5% per year. JD Powers and Associates ranks cable companies as good or bad for the customer.

Satellite TV outages average about 1%. JD Power and Associates on the two satellite TV providers - Dish Network and DirecTV - higher customer satisfaction as a cable TV company in the last five years, the space

The Bottom Line

If you see some shows just to be aWeek, and you live in an area where you can not get over-the-air TV and cable TV is less than $ 20 per month cost, then cable may be the best choice.

If on the other hand, you want the largest selection of shows, movies, sports and news for the least amount of money ... Want to see your show in all your videos and digital sound ... and if you want the chance to see them in HD format and recording on a DVR receiver, then satellite TV is what you are looking for.

Sharp Aquos LC45D40U 45-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner

Sharp Aquos LC45D40U 45-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner Review

We've owned the Sharp LC40D40U for going on three years now and have been happy every day since purchase that we bought it. I'd been hesitant to pull the trigger on a big flat screen and we found this one for an unbelievable deal out of box at a CC store. With an active shelf life of 80,000 hours, buying a floor model was only a slight concern and 3 years later we haven't been proven wrong on that front.

We run an Xbox 360 through component, an upscaling DVD (Phillips DVP5960/37), analog cable, and over the air HD through an amplified RCA antenna. The 1080i HD programming over the air is astounding, and the availability has only increased as the DTV transition nears. The upscaling 1080i from the DVD player is amazing too and has reinvigorated our DVD collection and renting habits. The most surprising thing about this TV is its ability to comb out imperfections in a 480i analog signal. When we first plugged it in and connected all our devices and cable it automatically set up and memorized our cable service. We thought sure that the analog cable would look like dog crap on such a large screen, but it actually looked near perfect (no artifacting, no weird jaggies, no dots or dot crawl). Sharp has been manufacturing large scale LCD televisions longer than any other manufacturer and it shows in their product. We wouldn't hesitate to buy this again, even at a higher price than what we paid.

Pros - Excellent comb filtering and in-TV upscaling of 480i, fantastic 1080i picture, box design actually looks better to us than a lot of the ones newly available
Cons - HDMI inputs are at top of TV (about 2' longer away from bottom), changing channels is *slow* (but this is a side effect of the pro of having AMAZING post signal processing in the TV), remote is a little iffy, but I use a Harmony and so that's not an issue

All in all, pull the trigger if you're even looking at this one. Our next will be a Sharp without a doubt. We couldn't be happier and have been for nearly three years.

Sharp Aquos LC45D40U 45-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner Overview

Sharp LC45D40U 45" LCD TV

Sharp Aquos LC45D40U 45-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner Specifications

Sharp's LC-45D40U high-definition LCD HDTV proves you don't have to sacrifice style for technology. This gorgeous 45-inch set features a strikingly shiny piano black cabinet that will become an elegant centerpiece to any room. It also features the latest Sharp screen and video processing innovations, as well as an integrated HDTV tuner, a space-saving design with bottom-mounted speakers, included stand, pure digital audio/video connectivity with two HDMI inputs, and a rapid-fire response time of 6 ms (milliseconds)--perfect for watching fast-action sports and movies.

This set features Sharp's Multi-Pixel technology, which divides each pixel in to two sections to deliver more natural and accurate color reproduction when viewing the screen from any angle. It will improve extreme-angle viewing by approximately 60 percent. It also offers Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD panel technology, which uses an enhanced color filter that permits more light throughput. This increases the contrast ratio by 150 percent to 1200:1 for pure whites, deep blacks, and a higher range of colors. Sharp's Quick Shoot video circuitry provides an ultra-fast pixel response time of 6 ms, which helps to ensure excellent detail and smooth motion during high-speed scene transitions. The screen also offers a low-reflection coating to reduce the effect of sunlight and interior lighting to provide vivid large-screen pictures wherever you install your LCD television.

The built-in ATSC tuner pulls HD signals right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. The screen delivers a true 1366 x 768-pixel HDTV resolution, and it also features a wide 176-degree viewing angle and 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating--perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight.

You'll enjoy enveloping audio from the set's built-in 20-watt bottom-mounted stereo speakers (10 watts per channel), which can also produce virtual Dolby surround sound. It provides the following connection options:

  • Composite AV (RCA): 3 in
  • S-Video: 1 in
  • Component Video: 2 in
  • HDMI: 2 in
  • RF: 1 in
  • Total analog audio in: 4
  • Analog audio out: 1
  • Digital optical: 1 out

Tech Talk
HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

If your Next Big Screen TV, an HDTV Plasma?

Are you looking for a new big screen TV? There are several possibilities of different technologies for your next big screen TV. Currently available one of the best and most popular technology is a plasma HDTV. But how do you know which model is right for you? Here are some brief descriptions of CRT technology, LCD screens, plasma HDTVs and projectors, so you can have a better understanding of the options for your next big screen TV.

CRT TVs

Whilenot as high tech as a Plasma HDTV, you can still have a big screen TV with cathode ray tube (CRT) technology (small cathode ray tubes to create the color, producing images), also known as direct - TV view known. CRT is the basic technology for televisions that everyone is aware and is more commonly available. While they are thicker and do not have the same image quality, as newer technologies, CRT monitors still have a good color, long life, canSeen in lighted rooms, and for decent prices. CRT screens exist in wide screen and flat-screen options. CRTs are built last year, with picture quality that never fade. A CRT is a good economical solution. However, when plasma HDTV is cheaper in future the CRT TVs are likely to become extinct.

LCD TVs
